A printing press operator is responsible for preparing, maintaining and operating the printing machine. His or her duties vary according to the type of press. The person operates offset lithography, flexography, gravure, screen printing, letter press, etc. The duties include installing and adjusting of printing plates, adjusting pressure, loading of paper, adjusting the press to the paper size and preparing machines for printing. The jobholder ensures that paper and ink meet specifications and adjust the flow of ink and margin to the linking rollers. After the process, the press operator feeds paper through the press cylinder and then adjust feed and tension controls.

In case of one press, they make adjustments to correct the distribution of ink, speed and temperature in the drying chamber. With high speed press, they constantly look for problems and correct them very quickly to minimize downtime. Through out the whole run, they are responsible for checking for any printing imperfections.
