A probation officer is a social worker hired by private or public agency to help people start a new life. He or she usally work with people convicted of crimes, but haven't sent to jail. In some particular cases, the court gives the convicted a probationary period to wait and watch whether good changes are there in them or whether there is feasibility to improve them. The probation officer is appointed to help convicted obtain education, engage in community services, and stay away from indulging in criminal activities. The office has to interact, and supervise such people daily and prepare report on the improvement in the individuals which the court will consider.
