When working with local, state and government agencies, they check whether individuals and companies have paid required amount of tax in time and have presented necessary details to back the tax returns. With private companies, they help the management in reducing expenses and checking if the accounting procedures are in accord with the prevailing law.
If your aim is to get an accounting auditor position at a government agency, obtain a bachelor's degree in accounting. If you want to strengthen further your prospect, get a master's degree as well. In addition to these degrees, you will also need a CPA (Certified Public Accountant) certification. This will make you eligible in submitting reports to the Securities and Exchange Commission.
