A cover letter written for the teaching position should be of no stress because they are supposed to have good writing skills. The cover letter for an elementary principal is no different from any other cover letter. The goal will always remain the same, which is to get you an interview. The primary purpose of your cover letter is getting you one-step closer in getting to an interview.
Remember that while writing a cover letter every line of the letter must directly relate to the purpose. For example, the address line must have the specific name of the recruiting person or the person who will be interviewing you. You will have to personalize your cover letter. This will let the reader know that you are interested in working with their school and not with any other school.
Every cover letter that you send to school should be unique enough for that school. This means that if you are sending out ten cover letters everyday then the minimum effort you can put is changing the name of the school. This will give a personal feel and will make a huge difference for you as well.
Whenever you are writing a cover letter, remember that you do not have to approach it like a teacher. Write the letter with a little emotion, express your love for the teaching profession. Try to show interest in that particular school as well. Most importantly, do not forget to ask for job interview in your cover letter.
Here is an example elementary principal cover letter to help you further.
