Cover letters are written by applicants to convince the recruiters. A cover letter includes details of applicant like contact details, skills, strength, educational qualifications, certifications, previous job experience and an assurance to carry out the responsibilities perfectly.
A cover letter includes all the information that is written in resume. But it is different from resume. A resume is a much detailed document to state applicant's accomplishments. In a cover letter a quick paragraph of everything relevant for the post applied is stated. Like resume a cover letter also follows a format. A cover letter is basically divided in three parts. It starts with applicant's name and detailed contact address. Next comes the main body of a cover letter which comprises all the important information about applicant relevant to the post applied for. The last part of cover letter should sum the entire letter with a proper closing.

Respected Sir/Madam,
With reference to your ad in the classified in The New York Times dated June 8, 2011 in which you have invited applications for the post of hygienist. I would like to apply for the post of Hygienist in your company. I am well aware of hygiene standards and am able to handle all the responsibilities involved with this post.
I have done my Graduation in dentistry from ABC Dental College. I have associate dental hygiene degree and a state license to work as a hygienist. I have conducted many camps in nearby villages under 'hygiene scheme' of state government. This camp included checking, treating and teaching people correct methods of brushing and maintaining oral hygiene.
I master in removing stains from teeth developed because of smoking. Removing tartar, plaque and other impurities are the procedures I have handled single handedly during my internship.
With a 9 year experience of a dental hygienist I have treated many patients having problems with oral hygiene. I have taken counseling sessions for the patients going through chemotherapy to make them aware of side effects of radiation therapy on teeth. I have conducted special workshops for the mothers of infants on maintaining hygiene.
I am a hardworking, dedicated, sincere and an honest person. I do wish to offer my services to your organization. I am enclosing all the relevant documents with this cover letter. I wish you find those worthwhile. Eagerly waiting for your call I assure you that if appointed I will never disappoint you.
