Volunteer Cover Letter

A volunteer cover letter is necessary to apply for the position of volunteer in a community or any organization. Undermining the importance of a cover letter can be an ugly omen for your career. There is a reason why the employers demand a properly drafted cover letter and if you cannot provide the same, then chances of getting selected for the interview are minuscule; almost negligible.

The job of a volunteer is to participate in the community outreach programs, corporate social responsibilities (CSR) activities, exhibitions, environmental conservation projects, etc. Volunteers may work as either part time or full time employees depending on the operations of the employing organization. Volunteering is a way to develop one's personality and utilizing his/her skills for the betterment of others.

How to Write a Volunteer Cover Letter

The cover letter for the job of a volunteer should be centered around job specific skills and experience along with the educational qualifications. It should be informative enough to enlighten the reader and at the same time should not present you as an overconfident individual with low levels of professionalism.

Never hurry while drafting your cover letter. Take time to learn about the job requirements for the organization where you are applying. It will help you to include the relevant information without making the cover letter too lengthy. You will have to include a brief of the projects you have been a part of and how you contributed for the execution of the project. You can also mention the skills that help you to perform well in this position.

Dear Ms. Johnson,

I was browsing the website of Edmonds Corporation wherein I saw the post about the ongoing recruitment of volunteers for CSR activities of the organization. Having worked in a similar domain previously, I find myself to be a competent candidate for this profession and would like to share my experiences with you.

I started to work as a volunteer for Souls, a nonprofit organization that works for educating the orphan and poor children in Birmingham and neighboring suburbs. I basically visit the slums and orphans to meet the parents and children and spread awareness about the importance of elementary education. I prepare the database of the children enrolled in the educational programs and assess their participation and development through the same. This job has taught me how to lead children coming from different age groups and backgrounds and motivating them to enroll and participate in the programs for self development.

I am sending along my resume and photocopies of certificates received for my participation and performance in various programs. I thank you for reading my application. Awaiting a positive response.

Sincerely yours,

John B. Howard

Dear Ms. Whitley,

I would like to apply for the job of a volunteer at Wesley Foundation. I came to know about this job through the weekly magazine published by the foundation. Being an experienced volunteer for various programs, I feel that my qualifications do match the job criteria as stated in the advertisement.

I began working as a volunteer at Bradley Foundation while I was studying at the university. After completing my education, I started working as a full time volunteer there. During these years, I have been a part of several programs aimed at community service and development.

I am comfortable to work in remote areas for long periods at a stretch and deliver my best efforts for the successful execution of the programs.

Kindly find my resume attached along with this application. I look forward to meet you in person. Thank you for reading my application.

Sincerely yours,

Ricky J. Walters
