ESL Instructor Responsibilities
ESL instructors teach English as a second language (ESL) . An ESL instructor generally instructs and teaches his students who belong to lower schools, high schools, colleges, and universities. He makes lesson programs that teach non-English speakers to read, write, and speak English. Performing classroom and community activities which help the students to learn English in real life situations, apart from arranging field trips are included under ESL instructor responsibilities. He helps the students with perfecting their English grammar, phonetics, and conversational abilities.
The ESL instructor in colleges helps the students develop their English reading and writing abilities. The students read the text books and write essays in English. This enhances their overall reading and writing skills. An ESL instructor also teaches in public and private colleges, vocational schools, adult educational programs, and community educational programs. He can work as a private tutor also and help the students learn English. He has the following key responsibilities:
- Enhancing the English reading, writing, and speaking skills of the students coming from different ages and backgrounds

- Taking and maintaining the attendance of students and ask the same to get a leave letter in case they remain absent

- Attending weekly staff meetings to discuss the students
- Working according to the directions given by the school administrators
- Evaluating the progress of the students
- Explaining things through the use of pictures, demonstrations, and gestures
- Motivating the students to come up with more and more number of doubts
- Updating his own computer and teaching skills in order to teach and provide satisfaction to all the students
- Requesting the students to submit their homework through emails
- Meeting the parents of the students in order to tell them how their children are performing
Qualifications
The candidate must have a bachelor's degree in teaching English as a second language. Some countries also require the candidate to have a master's degree in education or teaching.
Work Conditions
He has to work for more than 40 hours per week on an average. He usually has work for a 10 month school year. He may also have to work the whole year around.

The average salary of an ESL instructor is about USD 55,000 per annum.
