The key responsibilities of an account manager's job include being a point of contact to the customers, keeping a track of recent happenings in the market, competition and client's businesses, building contacts/ securing clients through web marketing etc.

- Communication is a vital tool for an account manager. How would you explain your communication skills?
Emphasize on your communication skills. Give an example or two that demonstrates your good skills of communication.
- Have you been able to consistently achieve your targets? Explain with the help of examples.
An efficient account manager will never have any problems in meeting his targets. Tell interviewers about the time you excelled at achieving your goals.
- What kind of work environment do you prefer?
You may state your preference of working environment, but remember that the company you are applying to may have an altogether different working culture. Thus, make it a point to add that you would like to experience a different work environment as well.
- Give us an example of when you had to make a tough decision in a fraction of a second.
Your ability to make quick decisions in a short span of time will be reviewed by interviewers. Thus, carefully choose and narrate the incident where your decision proved to be a fruitful one.
- How would you gain the confidence of an unsatisfied group of clients, given the fact that you are recently hired?
This is a tough call. It is natural that clients' level of trust declines if they are dissatisfied. And also, it is very difficult to gain their trust back, especially with a new person handling the issues. Excellent interpersonal skills and effective communication are the two main factors that can help in resolving the problem.
Thus, remember to build your answer around these two points.
- How do you feel about entertaining your clients?
This involves extra hours having meetings with the clients over a dinner/ lunch, outings etc. This could pose a problem to a candidate with family commitments. Nevertheless, be direct about your concerns.
- Have you had experience in web analysis/ search engine marketing/ online media/ marketing through emails etc.?
Do mention if you have had any of the experiences that they have asked for. Whereas, if you don't, do mention your eagerness to learn while working.
- What steps will you take to increase our profits? / What can you do to make a meaningful contribution to our company?
Talk elaborately about your working techniques and tactics. Let them know how they have helped you to perform better and eventually, worked to the benefit of the company.
- Would you like to ask us any questions?
Asking relevant questions will give them a hint on how seriously you have thought about this job prospect. Include questions related to the training session, working hours, more details about the job etc.
