A practical nurse will work under the supervision of registered nurses in a variety of medical settings. She will do the job that will save time of the senior nurses and the health care team. This means she will take vital signs, record patient's medical history, perform the initial diagnosis, and prepare patient charts for doctors' reference. She can read and interpret prescriptions but cannot prescribe medications to patients. She will also assist patients in taking a bath and other personal hygiene activities. As no major clinical power is bestowed upon this position, the education requirement is thus kept minimal. A certificate or diploma in practical nursing is enough to start a nursing career.
