A drug counselor provides counseling to drug addicts individually or in groups. He explains the ill-effects of addictions and risks of life. He plays the role of a friend, philosopher and guide while counseling the addicts. As a counselor, he needs to have a sound knowledge of the hazardous effects of drugs and alcohol consumption on human body. The job holder should also know the ways to overcome these addictions and should have a knack to tell the addict how de-addiction would make life better and merrier. In addition, the person must also be familiar with nutritional food that can help combat the side-effects of drugs. It is the duty of the drug counselor to help the addict regain his confidence and have a positive frame of mind.
