Tax auditors are the ombudsman of taxation laws whose job is to help a company, an individual, or non-profit organization to follow rules in filing all types of tax imposed by the local, state, and federal governments. They are knowledgeable of accounting principles and are able to handle any tax issues professionally. These auditors may work with companies as internal auditors, or with accounting firm and serve clients as external auditors, or may also work with the IRS (Internal Revenue Service).

An accounting degree with certification as a public account is the primary requirement for a tax auditor position. Auditors also have to keep continuing with education since the tax laws are vulnerable to change every year.
