A web logic server interview would be primarily focused on the technical questions. Just like most of the technical job interviews the out come of web logic interview would depend on how well you have prepared for it. Following interview tips will give you a general guideline for preparing for the interview.
Preparation
- Research
Research is the first part of any weblogic interview effort. You should divide this research phase in to three parts.
Part one is the company. The candidates should be aware of some general details about the company such as its mission statement, major products, services, clients and competitors, recent mention in news media, working environment, culture, etc.
Part two is the job. This includes the job specification and required qualifications, what would your actual task would be within the company, which platform would you be working on and which tools would you be using, Future growth prospects etc.
The third part is the interview itself. It's very important from the preparation point of view, to know the structure of the interview, the types of questions that would be asked etc. This can significantly change how you'll prepare for the interview. For a simple example if the interview would involve writing code on paper and you have so far been using an IDE when programming you'll be in a tight spot more than likely.
- Resume
After research you should be aware of the parts of your resume that are more important and relevant for the job in question. Make sure that they are emphasized. If there are points on your resume that are not relevant to the job and you don't have a good command on them you may consider removing them out right. Having a very long resume can be counterproductive therefore if you have additional references you may consider mentioning them on a page separate from the resume. In any case make sure that the resume is optimized for both the job and the company. Also the interviewer often ask questions based on what is mentioned in the resume so make sure that you have good command of all the mentioned points.
- Prepare for Questions
You may have good theoretical and practical knowledge of the web logic server, still it's a good idea to go through the interview questions available on the internet. Do not rely on such questions only for the preparation as this will leave serious gaps in your knowledge and understanding of the weblogic server but don't ignore them either. Try to find the answers to these questions yourself. This way you'll learn several new things as well. The questions in the interview would be of personal, behavioral and technical types. For optimal result you should divide your time, so as not to neglect any one type of questions. Dedicate a major part of your efforts to technical questions as these would take most time.
For behavioral and personal questions never give generic answers. Prepare the answers in advance but be sure that these are your answers. During interview, take time to think before answering and answer in an unrehearsed and spontaneous manner.
- Prepare Questions
Not asking questions makes you appear uninterested or even lazy. When invited always have some questions ready. Make a list of the questions that you can ask the interviewer in advance. Make sure that the questions are focused on the company and not yourself. Ask about the ongoing projects, your responsibilities, evaluation methods and other procedures within the company. Avoid the topic of salary and other compensations. If the interviewer brings up the point say that it's negotiable and if asked about your expectations, give a reasonably wide range of salary. Never mention a certain amount until an actual offer is made by the employers.
- Make Notes
During preparation make short note in a word file or notebook. Keep them organized and intelligible. They'll be good for a quick review and useful for future interviews as well. Keep them short but detailed enough that someone else can understand them as well.
- Practice
"Practice makes a man perfect!" This is especially true when learning a language, programming, scripting or otherwise. You should practice solving test problems. If there is a possibility that you'll be asked to code without an IDE, practice coding on a simple text editor or even using pen and paper.
- Answering Questions
Your answers should be short and easy to understand. Do not answer in yes and no but don't elaborate with being specifically asked either. If the answer to the question asked is long. Take some time to organize your thoughts and divide the answer in parts. It's a good idea to mention the high points and elaborate only when asked.
If you don't know the answer to some question, admit it and move on. If you have prepared properly there would be other question that you know the answers of. If you can't remember the technical specifics such as the actual syntax mention the underlying concept. If you know what to do exactly, it's comparatively easy to find out how to do it by searching internet.
The interview tips mentioned above will help you guide your interview preparation efforts for a web logic interview. The main thing is to stay positive and have confidence in your self. A weblogic interview is not going to be easy, neither the preparation, nor the actual interview, but you should remember that it would be difficult for every one and not only you.
